We named it this way because of the indigenous material that we used. We found unique flat stones in a town north of the Puerto Princesa. The rivers are overfilled with these flat stones and it makes beautiful and tasteful facade. The owner wanted us to build a budget home that is somewhat filipiniana. We were on this style for while and we welcomed the invitation. They have heard about us through friends and saw what we did with our simple Mexican house. She's single and takes care of a lot of nephews and neices and needed a home for them. The lot was square but with many adult trees surrounding it. We built around them and they made a perfect shade and adornment for the house.
DESIGN
Spanish was the word, plain roof, family room for activities, a cozy balcon for meditation and adjusted along the way added a huge balcony on top of the garage. Perfect for a large gathering in the late afternoon. The color is green, the windows tall, the ceiling plain with boxed in center with a minimalist look.
The initially plan was found small in area, (since we designed with the budget in mind) so we adjusted and moved the garage protruding from the living area and making lots of roof deck area that connects to the front porch.
Each room enjoyed the corners of the house as well as the family area. That's what you get when the design is squarish. It was designed with no airconditioning in mind. The air in Palawan doesn't need conditioning.
CONSTRUCTION
The structure were all concrete and steel thrusses for the roof. We overlaid wood parque on the floor upstairs made out from collected timber here and there. We had a table saw rigged and started making parques, thousands of them.
We had tons of flat stones dilivered by our aggregates supplier who happens to have a quarry where the flat stones are found. We finished them with emulsion to give a wet look. The main door reception area and garage where wrapped up with it.
We came just a little above budget considering we added 25 sqm for the garage and another 25 sqm for the roof deck.
UNIQUE
It's the surrounding trees that makes the house welcomed in the environment. The flat stones blended in and it gave you a feel that the house have been there for a long while, something like a feeling of history.
OVERALL
We could say that this is the best house we ever finished. It gave us a feeling everytime we pass by the area with friends, we needed to say that we did this house.
