Our friend who works in a bank which is in one of the buildings we designed and built, has a friend who has a prime property adjoining the public market. We got introduced over a couple of breakfast meetings and we did design and redesigned. Along the way, our curved roof, multi level and multi area design ended up to a rectangular and staight building with a roof facade. So we started to build a ground level structure until we were asked to facilitate another floor. Thus a two storey market complex.
DESIGN
CONSTRUCTION
Good thing that we were quick to adjust and no time wasted. We redesigned on the fly and redesigned the structure to accomodate the second floor. We quickly estimated and submitted a new budget and the additional was not that much. So we maximized the area, designed an overhang of 1.5 meters on the second floor and ended up with twice the area we initially planned.
Again, the initial plan was to have it open with small booths to accomodate the small vendors. As the building nearing completion, the vendors started to clamour for more space until we had to blocked off the area and ended with six huge stalls with roll down shutter instead of having 35 small stalls.
UNIQUE
It's the dynamic movement of design, and up to this day, we are still awaiting how to subdivide the second level as vendors start to move in.OVERALL
Finally, it's almost over, the vendors are occupying the spaces and the rent is coming in.
