DESIGN
A simple roof, rustic in color and mediterrenean. Well, we did a couple of sketches for them and it was getting clearer what they wanted. Three adult sons, motorcycles, lots of silverware collected, and very perfect taste with details in mind. We surprised them with workers the following Monday and started excavating. (The owner said, that if we didn't come he would never have his house built)
There were changes along the way as there were many consultants along the side. We moved some walls here and there but the integrety of the design remained. Four bedrooms, four baths, powder room, clean and dirty kitchen, lanai, garage, dog house, and wide driveway paved with bricks.
CONSTRUCTION
We did something like this before, so here we go again. We had to bring in power tools and tables to cut up and prepare all the wood that they have collected over the years, (two bodegas of hardwood and narra). We made T&G wood flooring, wrapped up false ceilings to create boxes of beam of narra wood with carvings. There was another interior designer that made so many suggestions, but the end of the day, the owner's taste took the lead.
UNIQUE
We needed to fit in a good sized house on a narrow lot. The original design was for two house on this lot. It was close but we manage to cut off the bodega's roof adjacent to the lot.
The stairs are all wrapped up with narra planks and you get a very wooden feel climbing up. Plus we ensured the proven formula of the "senorita steps" (twice the run as the rise) and a picture etched glass window at the rest. All the flooring on the second floor are wood planks manufactured as we constructed.
OVERALL
We saw two very happy couple enjoying their home.
